THE developer which promises to revitalise many of Britain's rundown seafronts has unveiled detailed plans of its first scheme for 21 luxury overnight-stay beach huts at Dukes Walk, Whitley Bay, near Newcastle upon Tyne.

Beach Hut Resorts says rentals will range from Pounds 250 for three-night stays to Pounds 450 per week.

The units, which will include a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and seating area, will be available to rent from June 1 next year.

The huts are fully equipped with shower, cooker, microwave, music player, wi-fi, double glazing and full insulation.

Two TVs will be standard, one in the bedroom.

Beach Huts Resorts spokesman Alex Miller says that venture capital backing of Pounds 35 million is behind the company as it negotiates with local authorities in coastal areas around Britain.

Detailed plans of other schemes are expected in October.

The intention is to use some of that private money to restore community buildings, like lido pools and art galleries, to spark the regeneration of rundown areas.
